17 photos of what it’s really like on a Kenya safari

A Kenya safari was one of those things that had been on my bucket list forever, but I wasn’t sure when I’d get around to it. When I thought “African safari”, I pictured fancy lodges with elegant beds draped in mosquito netting that I might be able to afford one day.

Turns out, there’s more than one way to safari. Intrepid’s 8-day Kenya Wildlife Safari was everything I was looking for: it was about a week long, affordable and promised wildlife sightings aplenty. Although if I had a bit more time and money, I would have loved to do the 15-day Masai Heartlands trip, which goes into Tanzania, or the 8-day Kenya Safari Under Canvas trip which is a similar itinerary but the accommodation is nicer (think glamping instead of camping).

What appealed to me about all these trips was that not only do you get to spot animals on safari, you also get to spend a day visiting a Maasai village and experiencing their culture.

On my safari in Kenya, I discovered a love of (amateur) wildlife photography and an even deeper love for Africa.

Here’s what a Kenya safari looks like in photos:
